The City of Sparks is planning to evict homeless camps along the Truckee River. It’s illegal to camp within 300 feet of the river. Starting Monday, that will be enforced, but first, Sparks Police, Animal Control agents and Volunteers for America are walking the banks, contacting each resident giving them the word, but also offering help. Some are accepting that help. Others are resisting, and the City is saying, that’s their choice. The evictions will be followed by a massive cleanup of the trash and debris left behind, including trash, empty bottles and hypodermic needles. Sparks city spokeswoman Julie Duewel says the goal is not to push them to Reno or Washoe County, she says “We’re really trying to get them the help that they need and offering services to them.”
