State and Washoe County officials are expressing some confidence they can deal with the leakage at the dam at Little Washoe Lake in the Washoe City area. Leakage was confirmed during an inspection Monday, after reports of problems were called in by a fisherman Sunday night. The dam is at least 100 years old and it is at risk of breach, which could flood Steamboat Creek. Work is underway to shore up the dam, large boulders are being place to support it. Eddie Quaglieri is the Dam Safety manager for the state of Nevada.
The seepage has been slowed down and the potential for a major breach has been greatly reduced. The area is similar to what was affected during flooding in January 2017, and anyone affected by that incident could be similarly affected this time if the dam does breach.
