At Carson Middle School, 200 students have earned CPR certifications through the American Heart Association. Cambron Carmichael, teacher at Carson Middle School says it’s so rewarding just knowing they have those skills now to save someone’s lives, and knowing that any point in time if something happens, they have the training and they have the confidence to be able to do it as well. The class not only granted students certifications; it helped them make career choices. Zehna Abdelhady says the training helped her decide what type of doctor she wants to be and changed her path for the future. She says she’s looking at becoming a pharmacist or surgical assistant. The month-long training class provided hands-on instruction in medical technology, nutrition, medical terminology, CPR and first aid, sports medicine and body systems, among other clinical fields.
