The city of Sparks will celebrate the completion of the North Truckee Drain Realignment Project Thursday. The celebration event will be held on the bike path above East Larkin Circle at 9:00 am. The $40 million, multi-phase project, designed by HDR and constructed by Q&D Construction, successfully realigned the North Truckee Drain further downstream of the Truckee River to help reduce flooding in the Sparks industrial area. Sparks Mayor Geno Martini says the completion of the project represents the end of more than a decade of work by the City to help mitigate flooding in Sparks. The project, south of I-80 from Sparks Blvd. to East Larkin Circle, constructed a series of underground concrete culvert boxes to transport water from the North Truckee Drain to the Truckee River. The sealed system will contain flood-waters and reduce flood impacts to lower lying properties.
