Wildfire in Smith Valley Cause by Vehicle Fire

Authorities say the 1,200-acre Upper Colony Fire in Smith Valley was caused by a vehicle fire. They say the small fire quickly spread to the wildland due to erratic winds. At this time the fire is 72-percent contained, with full containment expected June 27th. No structures are threatened, and no injuries reported. FEMA has authorized funds to help with the Lyon County fire. The grant, authorized on Sunday, will help with with costs like equipment, staffing, and emergency work. When the State of Nevada submitted for assistance, the fire was threatening 100 homes about 15 miles southwest of Yerington.
