BLM Conducting Horse Gather This Week

The Bureau of Land Management, Elko District, Wells Field Office is conducting a wild horse gather beginning this week, removing around 125 wild horses from the range. The BLM is using a water and bait trap to collect the horses in an area that’s less than a mile from Highway 93 because the horses have been seen grazing outside the HMA, and causing safety concerns. Onde they’ve been rounded up, the horses will be transported to the Indian Lakes Off-Range Wild Horse and Burro Corrals in Fallon, where they will be checked by a veterinarian and readied for the BLM’s wild horse and burro adoption program.
