Firefighting crews are battling multiple fires sparked by lightning strikes from Saturday’s storm, according to the Humboldt Toiyabe National Forest.
The Kiowa Fire is in the Kiowa Ponds area of Peavine’s east side, burned 124 acres, and is 50 percent contained.
It is about a mile north of the Hoge Fire, burning 500 acres and is 40 percent contained.
Erica Hupp with Humboldt Toiyabe said there is no need for aerial resources at this time as the storm’s humidity was a major help for crews.
There are no evacuations at this time as firefighters are mopping up and securing fire perimeters for both fires.
Truckee Meadow Fire Protection District crews also are mopping up the American Flat brushfire in Antelope Valley and have full containment. The cause of this fire also is believed to be ignited by lightning.
