Police Crackdown on Illegal Street Racing in Reno & Sparks

Local police arrested 11 people and issued 64 citations in its latest crackdown on illegal street racing. One vehicle was towed.  Two of the arrests were for felony eluding a peace officer when two drivers racing on North McCarran Boulevard failed to stop as police tried to pull them over. One driver crashed, injuring a passenger. Police say they found both drivers and arrested them.
Others arrested had outstanding arrest warrants, possessed drugs or were suspected of driving under the influence.  A similar region-wide crackdown June 29 yielded 49 citations, five arrests and seven towed vehicles.  The Reno Police Department, Sparks Police Department, Washoe County Sheriff’s Office and the Nevada Highway Patrol did the crackdown using a grant from the Nevada Office of Traffic Safety. The operation follows complaints from the community.
