The U.S. Forest Service has implemented immediate fire restrictions in the Tahoe National Forest after analyzing fuel conditions and the weather forecast. That means no open fires, campfires, or charcoal fires on Tahoe National Forest lands outside of designated areas, even with a valid California Campfire Permit. You can use lanterns, portable stoves that use gas, jellied petroleum, and pressurized liquid fuel, unless otherwise restricted, with a valid California Campfire Permit available from Forest Service. It’s also illegal to smoke in the Tahoe forest, except inside an enclosed vehicle, building, designated recreation site or while stopped in an area at least 3 feet in diameter that is barren or cleared of all flammable material.
