The Reno Police Department is warning about what appears to be a new scam. Police say the scam works like this: A resident gets a call from someone claiming to be with the “City Alarm Program,” and told there is a fine owed at the residence that should be paid over the phone. Police say the city of Reno does not deal with fines that way, and if you get that call, you should not give any personal information over the phone.
