Crews Increase Containment on The Perry Fire North of Reno

The Bureau of Land Management reports the Perry Fire is 45 percent contained. The fire, which started last Friday, has now burned about 48,695 acres, or about 76 square miles. Evacuations have been lifted for areas in the Warm Springs Valley west of Pasture View Road. However, threats to homes in upper Warm Springs Valley, such as those on the Pauite and Right Hand Fork Canyons, continue to be a major concern for emergency management and remain under evacuation. The Perry Fire is spreading to the south and southwest. Record dry fuels, intense fuel loading in combination with wind and low humidity are resulting in longer than normal burn periods and erratic fire behavior. It has already cost $2.6 million to fight.
