Tribal Chairman Releases Statements About Burning Man Stops, Searches

There have been complaints about searches of vehicles along Highway 447, that seem to be targeting people headed for the Burning Man Festival, while they cross tribal land. Pyramid Lake Tribal Chairman Vinton Hawley acknowledged the crackdown, and says it’s in the interest of battling the opioid crisis, an initiative backed by Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke. Hawley says the tribe is exercising its right to protect the health, safety and general welfare of tribal members. He invitees anyone who feels they’ve been harassed or illegally stopped by a tribal officer, to file a formal complaint with tribal authorities.
