Republicans trailed Democrats in active voter registrations by another 2,000 people in August, according to new numbers from Secretary of State Barbara Cegavske. Democrats have been reversing lost ground from earlier this year, when their advantage dipped to just over 59,000 active registered voters. The party now has over 68,000 more active registered voters than Republicans. Nonpartisan active registered voters increased by 2.7 percent in August to nearly 320,000. Statewide, the number of active registered voters is about 6,000 short of 1.5 million.
