Reno Wins Federal Grants to Fight Opioids, Gun Violence

The Reno Police Department has been awarded two grants from the Department of Justice. One will help combat opioid abuse, and the other will go toward reducing gun violence. Mayor Hillary Schieve called it wonderful news and expressed gratitude to the Department of Justice for their support in addressing these significant problems that are affecting not only our region, but the entire country. This three-year grant is for more than $997,000, which has been awarded to RPD, the University of Nevada, Reno, and the Washoe County Health District. The objective will be to identify opioid misuse through supply and demand reduction and target outreach.
