The City of Reno says the recently enacted Reno Gun Initiative has led to a drop in gun violence in our community. Data shows that we’ve had 13 percent drop in gun crimes since last year. The initiative, that went into effect in April this year thanks to efforts by Police Chief Jason Soto, Mayor Hillary Schieve, and the Reno City Council, partners local, state and federal agencies with shared resources and intelligence to fight gun violence. Since it got started, 60 people have been arrested for crimes with guns, with more than 100 guns seized. Also involved in the initiative, Sparks Police, the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office, the County Crime Lab, DA’s office, Juvenile Services, and the ATF.
