Local “Burn codes” are back in November. The Washoe County Air Quality Management Divsion uses green, yellow and red “Burn” icons to let people know whether lighting fireplaces and wood stove is advisable or allowed. Washoe County District Health Officer Kevin Dick says everyone in the community needs to be conscientious about our air quality during the colder months, because nearly half of our local wintertime air pollution is due to wood burning in the Truckee Meadows. Burning coal and garbage is always prohibited.
