A woman was taken to a hospital for smoke inhalation after a fire on the 500 block of 2nd Street. Flames were reported at the Frenchman’s Station residence motel shortly after 11AM Thursday. Firefighters say it was a kitchen fire that caused extensive damage to one unit. The resident has since been released from the hospital and two birds were rescued and are okay.
Firefighters say it appears the fire started when the resident left food on the stove and walked away.
