A naturally occurring lake turnover of the Sparks Marina is producing low dissolved oxygen levels in the water, causing fish to die. The Nevada Department of Wildlife says there is no safety concern for the public, or other non-aquatic animal species. A lake turnover is the process of a lake’s water mixing from top to bottom. When this occurs, oxygen levels can plummet, depriving fish of needed oxygen to survive. The main species affected are trout. NDOW will continue to monitor the Sparks Marina, and work closely with the City of Sparks to mitigate the issue if needed. The public is welcome to continue to fish the marina.
