Outgoing Governor Brian Sandoval has proposed a budget for the next legislative session that calls for pay raises for state and state university employees, either a two percent yearly boost or a one time 3% pay hike. This would offset in part an increase in retirement system premiums state workers will pay. Sandoval would also increase k-12 budgets by more than 784 million over two year. The Governor would also shift marijuana tax revenues out of the Rainy Day Fund, to a School Safety Task Force. The state would also spend another 110 million to cover Medicaid and Nevada Check-up caseloads. Sandoval’s budget is about 8.8 billion.
