The BLM, Carson City District is conducting a wild horse gather in the Pine Nut Mountains, removing 575 horses beginning Wednesday. BLM’s John Axtell says native grasses aren’t bouncing back, because almost 800 horse are living in the HMA, and it can only handle about 200.
The BLM will likely add around 5 mares to the HMA following the roundup, to establish more diversity to the remaining herd. You can sign up to watch the gather [email protected]. All the horses collected are being transported to Palomino Valley where they’ll be put up for adoption.
