Truckee Meadows Fire Prevention District says open burning was prohibited in Washoe County Monday because of high wind. The announcement was made on the wake of fire crews stopping a quarter-acre brush fire Monday along eastbound I-80 in the Gold Ranch area. A tree had snapped on a power line, sparking the fire. Firefighters worked in 30-40 mph winds to prevent further spread.
