A man so impaired due to his combination of intoxicants that he fell from his vehicle when stopped by police, and could not stand without holding himself up on his truck, has been convicted of a DUI-related hit-and-run. 47-year-old Daniel Smith was charged with one count of Driving Under
the Influence and faces up to 15 years in prison. The crash happened October 16, 2017, at I-80 and Vista Boulevard in Sparks. The driver of a pickup had hit a car, then sped off. A Washoe County Sheriff’s deputy saw Smith’s Dodge RAM travel into oncoming traffic at least seven times, causing oncoming vehicles to swerve to avoid being hit. NHP identified Smith as the driver and found evidence of damage on his vehicle consistent with the hit-and-run. NHP also determined Smith had a felony DUI conviction from Texas in 2008.
