After several instances of violence, armed security guards are being hired for Reno’s Record Street homeless shelter, and outreach monitors for the organization that operates shelters, Volunteers of America, will be on hand for the first week of the month long pilot program. There have been assaults including a stabbing in the past several months, blamed in part on breakdowns in security.
