Public Meetings Being Held to Discuss The Future of Burning Man

The Bureau of Land Management held a public meeting Monday night on the future of the Burning Man Festival. Organizers are looking into a permit that could expand the festival to 100,000 people. There were alternatives for the permit proposed by the BLM including keeping the number of festival attendees and staff at 85,000 people, or raising the number of entrants 5,000 a year, until the total reached 100,000 people. The option of expansion would require a larger distance between the outside fence and the festival grounds and additional security. The public comment period is open until April 29th. The BLM expects to have a decision before this year’s event.
