A brush fire east of Dayton has burned about 400 to 500 acres but no structures are threatened and there are no evacuations, according to the Central Lyon County Fire Protection District. The fire is burning south of Stagecoach off Caroline Way, in cheatgrass and medium sagebrush. The cause is not known. According to officials, the Fort Churchill Fire is about 20 to 25 percent contained. The Nevada Division of Forestry is assisting with the fire and the Bureau of Land Management has been called in as well. They were first notified of the fire Sunday just before 2pm.
