The blighted district of East 4th Street in Reno is getting a makeover. Thanks to a 100 thousand dollar grant, East 4th Street is slated to receive new public art displays. The grant comes from the National Endowment for the Arts and is expected to be matched by the city, using funds from room taxes. The artwork is intended to strengthen the district’s sense of community and drive economic growth. Megan Berner, the city’s public art program coordinator, says the display could be a single trademark piece, two “bookends” on either end of the street, or a series of works spread throughout the area. Public engagement begins in August, with installation by June 2021.
