WCSD Expected to Vote on Zoning Changes Today

As many as 5 thousand students could be effected if the Washoe County School District votes to approve zoning changes.  Following construction of new Middle Schools that are scheduled to open in the fall of 2020, the Washoe County School District must decide what to do with overcrowded Elementary and Middle schools. As many as 21 existing schools are subject to the changes, as zoning patterns are corrected based on where people are living and moving. 6th grade is also moving to middle schools, with all 5th graders at the start of the 2020 school year being given a variance to stay where they are. The school board is expected to meet at 2pm Tuesday, the public will be allowed to comment, and the meeting takes place at 425 East 9th Street.
