A freight train derailment east of Wells shut down I-80 traffic in that area for hours Wednesday. There were concerns about a toxic spill, but the spill involved Aluminum Oxide which can be a skin irritant, until you wash it off. Some train cars contained some munitions, they did not spill or derail. It has been reported that 9 flat cars, 2 tankers, and 3 box cars derailed. Cause of the derailment is under investigation.
