The Cottonwood Fire burning north of Reno is contained, according to the Bureau of Land Management, after burning more than 300 acres. It was one of several fires sparked by lightning Sunday afternoon, according to the Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District. It burned a mile south of Fish Springs Road and roughly half way between the California border and the northwest corner of Pyramid Lake.
