BLM Resuming Pine Nut Horse Gather Next Week

The Bureau of Land Management Sierra Front Field Office is resuming the Pine Nut Mountain HMA wild horse gather near Carson City beginning July 29th. The first gather in February had to be postponed due to the weather. The agency plans to gather 148 wild horses, with the goal of removing around 109. Some mares rounded up will be released back to the range after they’re given PZP, a birth control inoculation. The gather is expected to last up to five days. Horses removed will end up at the Palomino Valley Center, where they will be checked by a veterinarian and prepared for the BLM’s Wild Horse and Burro Adoption and Sale Program.
