CA-89 Reopened at Emerald Bay After Friday Bomb Scare

[KOH] – California Highway 89 near Emerald Bay was closed Friday for around five hours shortly after 3pm due to a possible explosive device. The incident closed the highway near Emerald Bay for almost five hours.
The FBI received a report about a woman who intended to harm herself and could put others at risk. Reno Police and FBI located the woman’s vehicle, but the driver fled into California. The El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office and California State Parks officers stopped the vehicle on California 89 just north of the Vikingsholm parking lot and a male fled into the forest. Alana Jewel Lee Blakemore, 21, exited the vehicle with an unknown device around her neck, which she claimed was a bomb. She was taken to a hospital for treatment of a possible drug overdose.
Hobie Joseph Gregory, 24, was arrested at the Raley’s in South Lake Tahoe and booked into the El Dorado County Jail on suspicion of resisting arrest.
The highway was reopened around 8 p.m.
