Lightning Sparks Series of Fires in The BLM’s Elko District

A thunderstorm likely sparked 14 new fires in the Bureau of Land Management’s Elko District Sunday. The Corta Fire, grew to approximately 8,000 acres and is five percent contained. The Goose Fire grew to approximately 6,600 acres and is 5 percent contained. The Shafter Fire is approximately 4,300 acres and is 5 percent contained. The Shafter Fire and the Hogan fire merged and is now called the Shafter Fire.
