A man arrested near Long Beach, Calif., after allegedly kidnapping his mentally disabled mother is in the Washoe County jail after being extradited.
52-year-old Roger Hillygus allegedly took his 80-year-old mother, who suffers from severe dementia, from a care Reno facility on Aug. 8. The Reno Police Department tracked Hillygus and his mother to a home in Bellflower, Calif., on Aug. 15 and took him into custody on Aug. 16 after a standoff.
Reno police booked him into the Washoe County jail Wednesday on charges of kidnapping a person older than 60 and conspiracy to commit kidnapping. The Los Angeles Sheriff’s Office reported the mother was safe.
