Algae Bloom Being Tested in South Lake Tahoe

An Algae bloom in South Lake Tahoe is being tested to determine whether it is toxic. The Lahontan Regional Water Board collected samples last week along the shoreline of the Tallac Historic Site, after reports that a dog died after swimming in the water. They are testing for blue-green algae, and results should be in within the next few days. At this point there is no confirmation that the dog’s death was associated with exposure to the algae bloom. The testing will only confirm whether toxins are in the water.
