After more than four hours of public comments, the Washoe County School Board of Trustees voted to pass the sexual orientation and gender identity portion of the S.H.A.R.E curriculum. Some parents with more traditional values have expressed concerns. The revised lesson plan includes sexual orientation and gender identity. High School students will learn about terms like what it means to be straight, gay, lesbian, homosexual, bisexual, queer, pansexual, and asexual. The new sexual orientation and gender identity education lesson, approved last night, may be put into place as early as next semester.
