Dixon Fire is Done, Fire Managers Let It Burn

Fire Managers with the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest have determined the Dixon Fire has been naturally extinguished after receiving a significant amount of moisture from recent storms. The lightning-caused fire was located deep in the Carson-Iceberg Wilderness and was discovered by aerial reconnaissance on July 28. Fire officials chose to manage the Dixon Fire to meet multiple resource objectives instead of using full suppression tactics. The tactic reduces the risk of future devastating fires, that puts firefighters and forests in danger.
