City of Sparks Installing Pedestrian Safety Flags Along Vista Boulevard

The city of Sparks is installing pedestrian safety flags at various Vista Blvd. intersections for increased pedestrian visibility and safety. The project is part of an overall Be Safe! Be Seen! campaign brought before the Sparks City Council by girl scouts from Troop 1019.  Transportation Manager Amber Sosa says, “The Girl Scouts reached out to us about installing pedestrian flagging to make certain intersections in Sparks safer.”  At intersections where the flags are installed, pedestrians are encouraged to take a bright orange flag out of the cylinder mounted to the sign pole, hold it up as they cross the street and place it back into the cylinder on the opposite side of the street once they’ve crossed. The Sparks Police Department funded the approximately $4,000.00 needed to purchase and install the poles, signage, cylinders and flags.
