An identity theft prosecution has resulted in lengthy prison terms for 32 year old Jerry Tomasi and 30 year old Sergio Herrera. Both defendants had previously pleaded guilty to one count of Obtaining and Use of Personal Identity Information of Another and one count of Trafficking of a Controlled Substance. Both drew 26 years in prison. Last May the defendants got the personal information of the victim and began using it at several local stores. At sentencing, Washoe County Deputy D.A. Barack Potter argued that both defendants had a criminal history of similar theft and identity theft related crimes, and were on probation in California at the time the Washoe County crimes occurred.
