Reno Man Accused of Killing His Father

A northwest Reno murder investigation, involves a man is accused of killing his own father over an alleged affair with the suspect’s girlfriend.
36 year old Darnell Solis Smith was arrested January 10th on suspicion of open murder in the death of 75 year old James H. Smith, and for being a sex offender failing to register. The crime happened on the 1300 block of Stardust St. and was after police conducted a welfare check. Darnell said his father was on a trip to New Orleans. They returned January 9th, and found James dead in the living room, wrapped in blankets. Darnell was found in a bedroom and was arrested.Investigators say Darnell admitted killing his father, saying he believed his father and girlfriend were having a secret relationship, and that his father had offered Darnell’s girlfriend money for sexual favors. James Smith died from blunt force trauma to the head.
