The Storey County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a murder that happened Sunday in the Virginia City Highlands between Virginia City and Reno. The sheriff’s office said they were notified that a woman was in her home suffering from a head injury around noon. Later that evening investigators say 54 year old Janice McElhaney died from her injuries. The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office found the male suspect in the case in Incline Village and detained him. He is being identified as 47 year old William Collier. The Storey County Sheriff’s Office says Collier is being held in their jail on an open murder charge. The circumstances surrounding the murder have not been released as the investigation continues.
