Forest Officials Looking For Target Shooters Who Sparked Fire

Humbolt Toiyabe National Forest officials are looking to the public for help in their investigation of a fire that occurred on the eastern slope of Peavine Mountain on February 1st. The fire started around 3:30pm, and grew to 69 acres before it was put out. Investigators have determined that the fire was caused by target shooters. Officials are asking target shooters to refrain from the activity during hot, dry and windy conditions, and keep in mind that exploding targets are not allowed on public lands. They also recommend bringing a bucket of water, fire extinguisher, and a shovel in case a fire does start. If you have any information on who started the fire, call investigators at 331-6444.
