Tahoe Transportation District Trying to Fill a $1.5 Billion Shortfall

Driving into and out of the Lake Tahoe Basin could soon come with a cost. The Tahoe Transportation District is studying a plan that would help the region fill a $1.5 billion dollar shortfall in transportation funds over the next 23 years. The “One Tahoe” plan would mean millions of visitors would be on the hook for funding transit, trails and other infrastructure projects, according to Reno Gazette Journal. In a proposal, suggested fee’s to visit the the Tahoe Basin area would range from just over $1-dollar a day for commuter groups to a little over $4-dollars per day for non commuter groups. The proposal would produce a flexible source of money that could help reduce traffic congestion and cut down on greenhouse gas and other emissions that are harmful to the lake.
