Poeville Fire North of Reno Damages Structures Forces Evacuations

The Poeville Fire spread down Peavine Mountain Saturday and burned into structures and homes in the North Valleys area. The estimated damage was not immediately available. The fire is estimated to have burned 1,500. There were 250 firefighters from several agencies on hand last night June 27. Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District is the lead agency. Firefighters believe it will take several days to contain the fire. The plan is to attack the fire from the ground and the air during daylight with ground crews working overnight. Firefighters have asked people not to fly drones in the area because that keeps firefighting aircraft from making drops. Winds of up to 60 mph pushed the flames on Saturday. Saturday evacuations cover all Horizon Hills homes; all businesses north of Lemmon Drive and southwest of U.S. 395; Heindel Road, Myers Avenue and Lunsford Drive; and all of Raleigh Heights, as well as Beacon Drive, Crest Hill Road, Ruby Mountain Road and a mobile home park west of Golden Valley.
