Crews Stop Forward Progress of Brush Fire in Sun Valley

Crews stopped the forward progress of a brush fire in the hills north of Sun Valley Wednesday afternoon. Officials say the Rowdy Fire is approximately 12 acres and was burning brush and grassy fuels. No structures were threatened.

The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office says it will not issue a citation to the shooter who sparked the Rowdy Fire. According to the Sheriff’s Office, the person was in an area where it is legal to shoot, they remained on scene, and called to report the fire. Recreational shooters are asked to take precautions to avoid wildfires, including: Bringing water or a fire extinguisher, choosing locations with little vegetation, preferably dirt or gravel, use soft targets, don’t shoot steel core ammunition, avoid shooting rocks, metal, pressurized containers, or exploding targets and park your vehicle away from dry grass.
