New Information Released in Officer-Involved Shooting

A reckless driving suspect was shot in the shoulder by a Reno Police officer on July 26, after the officer was struck in the knee by a Washoe County Sheriff’s Deputy’s Taser, according to new details released by Reno PD. The suspect, a 43-year-old Reno man, was not following the deputy’s commands when officers arrived on the scene. The deputy fired his Taser at the suspect, missed him, and hit a Reno Police officer in the knee. The officer then fired his weapon, striking the suspect in the shoulder. The suspect was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Reno Police said Internal Affairs will review the evidence of the shooting to determine if the officer’s actions were within the Department’s policies and procedures.
