Efforts to Improve Clarity at Lake Tahoe Seem to be Working

Efforts to reduce the amount of sediment particles flowing into Lake Tahoe to improve water clarity are working according to the Nevada Division of Environmental Protection. Jason Kuchnicki, scientist with the Nevada Division of Environmental Protection, talks about how sediment runoff effects the lake.

In partnership with the California Regional Quality Control Board Lahontan region, NDEP’s been able to reduce runoff by implementing the retrofit of nearly 235 miles of forest road with stormwater runoff controls, decommissioned 9 miles of unpaved roads, and sweeping 7,500 miles of paved roads to prevent dust from being deposited into the lake through the air.
