Smoke Continues to Hang Over Northern Nevada

The lighting sparked North Complex fire has grown to 10,382 acres and is zero percent contained. The Sheep Fire, the largest fire in the group that makes up the North Complex, grew Thursday and moved towards Susanville. Steep terrain is making fighting the fire difficult.

The U.S. Forest Service reports that containment on the Loyalton Fire jumped to 60 percent at 46,582 acres as of Thursday night. No new structures were destroyed, leaving the loss at five homes and six outbuildings. The northern edge is mopped up to 100 feet or more in most places. The southern edge needs work to be considered contained, Tahoe National Forest Service reported.

There are no current threats to structures, but the lightning-sparked brush fire burning near Sutcliffe at Pyramid Lake, has grown to an estimated 750 acres. The Scrabble Fire broke out about around 4 p.m. Tuesday west of Pyramid Lake. Pyramid Lake Emergency Response say crews with Truckee Meadows Fire & Rescue and the Bureau of Land Management are working on the fire.
