Nevada Paid $9 Billion in Unemployment Benefits in 2020

Nevada paid $9 billion in unemployment benefits in 2020, that’s about 50 percent more than in the 12 previous years combined. The agency told the Senate Commerce and Labor Committee they also blocked $2 billion in attempted fraud and recovering $100 million in wrongfully paid claims. The Division of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation says business closures caused by the coronavirus outbreak pushed state unemployment at one point to more than 30 percent, the highest ever on record anywhere in the United States.
