Man Files Suit Against Alpine Meadows Ski Resort After Fatal Avalanche

A Placerville man is suing Alpine Meadows Ski Resort more than a year after he was hurt and his friend was killed in an avalanche. According to documents filed in Placer County Superior Court, Kaley Bloom says Alpine Meadows is to blame for the death of 34-year-old Cole Comstock. Bloom alleges that Alpine Meadows rushed efforts to open a ski run that received heavy snowfall the night before. Bloom suffered severe lower-body injuries in the January 2020 avalanche and says he still has ongoing suffering, according to the suit. Both of the men were inbounds when the avalanche was triggered. After searching for nearly an hour — crews located Comstock of Blairsden, California. Bloom was found later.
