Washoe County Commissioners Need a New Reopening Plan

Pushback from the City of Reno, The Washoe County School District and the County’s own health officer, has Washoe County Commissioners are coming up with a new COVID-19 reopening plan, after their latest was rejected. The Nevada COVID Task Force reviewed the plan Thursday as counties across the state prepare for the transition of mitigation control on May 1. Commission Chair Bob Lucey acknowledged it’s ‘aggressive’ to open 100 percent with no social distancing on May 1. County Health Officer Kevin Dick has said from the very beginning of the process that a 50% vaccination rate for re-opening is inadequate, he and other health professionals earlier recommended a vaccination rate of more than 70%.
